Tsjaka , also known as Ben-Hur , is a settlement in the Omaheke region in Namibia , which is about 50 kilometers south of Gobabis , the capital of the region.

Tsjaka is exactly at the intersection of the two former farms Tsjaka and Ben-Hur. Together with the surrounding small settlements, Tsjaka has about 3000 inhabitants, most of whom belong to the Tswana group and various San groups. Setswana and Khoekhoegowab as well as various San languages are mainly spoken in the settlement .

Every year a well-known horse race takes place in the village.

history

In 1981, a farmer association Tsjaka after the Chief of the Namibian Tswana , Constance Kgosiemang bought ten adjacent farms with government funds and this to a resettlement area (resettlement site) for the setswanasprachige population of the region, with the name Ben-Hur Rural Development Center , formed .

Infrastructure

The small settlement in the Kalahari can only be reached from the main road C22 via a gravel road. Tsjaka has a primary school, the Mphe Thuto Primary School , the Ben-Hur Rural Development Center run by the Ngoma Consulting Company, a local rural development NGO , and the Kalahari constituency office. The population lives in corrugated iron huts or in massive houses. The most important economic factor is subsistence farming.
