Tube (튜브, alternative title: Jagd am Limit ) is a South Korean feature film directed by Baek Woon-hak from 2003.

action

The headstrong, burned-out policeman Chang has been hunting down Korea's most feared terrorist, Kang Ki-taek, who once killed his girlfriend and mutilated his left little finger during a failed anti-terrorist operation. Due to his unauthorized behavior, he was thrown out of a special unit, was demoted and finally transferred to the Seoul subway police, where he has dutifully carried out his work ever since, but leads a rather bleak, unfulfilled existence.

One day he meets the attractive pickpocket Song In-kyong, who obviously has feelings for him, even spies on him and explores his apartment with the help of his stolen wallet and the keys it contains. There she discovered a mug shot of wanted terrorist Kang, whom she recognized the next day when boarding a subway and immediately informed Chang of his whereabouts. However, the unscrupulous criminal soon notices Song, identifies her as a friend of his opponent Chang, and takes her to the approaching tram 7103, which is also where the mayor of Seoul is. The summoned Chang also manages to jump on the moving train at the last second and thus initially mingle with the passengers unnoticed by the others.

Kang is the last surviving agent of the well-trained Rhodes Team special unit founded by Song Il-kwan , which once carried out extremely dirty and questionable jobs on behalf of the state authority. The members of the secret organization were later liquidated along with their families for fear that they would go public and cause a political scandal. Kang is now planning a media event with a loyal follower to take revenge on the current Prime Minister Song Il-kwan and promising presidential candidate, whom he holds responsible for the murder of his comrade. For this he brings an almost fully occupied subway under his control, gets rid of numerous bodyguards of the prominent politician who are present with almost unimaginable severity and takes control of the train. At the same time, he threatens the authorities to kill all passengers with previously brought explosive charges if they do not comply with his demands for uncensored reporting. Furthermore, he asks Song to sacrifice himself with suicidal intent so that the train and passengers can be spared.

However, the authorities let a first ultimatum he set pass and Kang kills the mayor in cold blood to give his demands more weight. After the Prime Minister Song Il-kwan, whom he called for, arrives late at the control center of the subway, he authorizes a controversial police operation that temporarily stops the train. Although a large number of passengers manage to escape, a real bloodbath ensues at one of the stops; the violent use of the Sonderkommando fails miserably. Countless special forces are killed or wounded while Kang manages to get the train moving again. Before that, however, Kang's loyal follower was fatally hit by Chang, so that the avenger and kidnapper has to act on his own from now on. Since the minister is not interested in saving the remaining occupants of the train, but is fighting for his political "survival", he tries with all his might to get rid of the extortionate Kang and the passengers. Only the valiantly fighting Chang thwarts his plans and faces his physically superior adversary, whom he, driven by concern for his now beloved girlfriend Song In-kyong, defeated in a duel and thrown off the moving train. What happens to the terrorist at this point, however, remains the film's guilt.

After the situation in the rolling train relaxed, however, you notice that it cannot be brought to a halt. The railcar, which still has a larger bomb in it, is diverted to a siding where an attempt is made to separate the bomb from the other cars. Chang, who is still lovingly saying goodbye to his new girlfriend Song, takes on this part and sacrifices himself for the good of the community. He dies as a result of a bomb explosion. At the end of the film, the remaining passengers are rescued, including Song and another politician who holds Kang's data chip with incriminating information about corrupt politicians. In the final scene of the film, Song remembers her great love, Chang.

Reviews

"A South Korean thriller on the trail of ' Speed ', which after a furious start slowly develops the background of its hero and then culminates in a fast-paced but all too preprogrammed finale."
