The Tumuli de la Croix Saint-Pierre are located near Saint-Just in the extreme south of the Ille-et-Vilaine department in Brittany in France . Some of the mounds were excavated by Pierre-Roland Giot (1919–2002) and the fixtures restored. They are among the most vivid of their type in Brittany.

The long hill

A not excavated, east-west oriented long hill ( French Tertre tumulaire ) is part of the megalithic complex of Croix Saint-Pierre. A rectangular arrangement of stones that could belong to an allée couverte protrudes from the hill. A larger menhir stands near the west end.

The dolmens

Ideal typical "dolmen with a corridor in the tumulus" ( French dolmen à couloir )

To the east is a hill with two “dolmen à couloir” chambers. According to Pierre-Roland Giot, the shape is one of the oldest in Brittany . The eastern system consists of a double row of plates as a three meter long corridor and a circle 4.5 m in diameter. A 2.6 m high menhir stands east of the corridor. A find near this menhir has a C14 date of 3270 BC. The second chamber of the same type is located seven meters to the west. The chamber is 2.4 meters in diameter and the corridor is five meters long. There is a U-shaped stone setting three meters to the west.

To the west of the site, 14 menhirs mark a round chamber and parts of the entrance. The chamber lies in a stone mound with a diameter of 3.6 m, which is surrounded by two concentric rings made of dry stone . The spaces between the menhirs are also closed by dry stone walls. These mounds were built in the Bronze Age .

The Tumuli de la Croix Saint-Pierre belong to the Parc des Megalithes de Saint-Just, which also houses the megalithic complexes Château Bû , the Allée couverte Grotte des Fées (Tréal) , Demoiselles Piquées , Four Sarrazin , La Croix Madame , the megaliths of La Gaudinais and Le Tribunal are located.
