Tunca Öğreten

Tunca Öğreten is a Turkish journalist . He was detained from December 25, 2016 to early December 2017 on charges of membership in a terrorist organization.

He was the editor-in-chief of the news division of Diken , a Turkish news website. He published leaked emails from the son-in-law of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the then energy minister Berat Albayrak . Öğreten was arrested on December 25, 2016, along with five other journalists. The German journalist Deniz Yücel was originally suspected in the same preliminary investigation before the proceedings against him were separated.

According to court records, Öğreten is accused of membership in the left-wing extremist organization ( DHKP-C ), which is banned in Turkey . He denies having ever been a member of this organization and points out that the only evidence is that there was once a connection to the group via Twitter via a tweet.
