Tuncay Özkan

Tuncay Özkan (born August 14, 1966 in Ankara ) is a journalist, politician and was the owner of the Turkish channel Kanaltürk . He is the author of more than a dozen books in Turkish.

Özkan, who comes from a family with roots in Kemaliye (Eğin in the province of Erzurum ), graduated from Gazi University and worked for the newspaper Hürriyet in 1984 , later moving to Cumhuriyet .

In September 2008, Özkan was arrested and found guilty in the so-called Ergenekon trial for being part of a conspiracy against the Muslim-conservative government of the Justice and Recovery Party (AKP). As a result, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. After six years imprisonment in the Silivri Penitentiary , he was released on March 10, 2014. In April 2016, the Court of Cassation dismissed the judgments against him and the other defendants. The proceedings are still pending.

In the general election on June 7, 2015 , he was elected to the Turkish Grand National Assembly as a member of the Republican People's Party (CHP) . He defended his mandate in the parliamentary elections on June 25, 2018 .
