Tune in for Love (Original title: Yu Yeol-ui Eumak Album 'Yu Yeol's Music Album') is a love film by South Korean director Jung Ji-woo from 2019. Netflix will release the film worldwide on November 5, 2019. Stylistically, the film in South Korea is assigned to the retro romance and the newtro trend. Newtro is a suitcase word from the English new ('new') and retro . It means enjoying the retro style in new ways.

In 1994, when singer Yoo Yeol began to host the radio show Eumak Album ( music album ), Hyeon-u went to a bakery and met Mi-su who worked there. Hyeon-u has just been released from the juvenile detention center and is looking for a job. He works part-time in the bakery. Over time, Hyeon-u and Mi-su develop feelings for one another. She affectionately calls him tofu , he nicknamed him donut . Then Hyeon-u is discovered by chance by his childhood friend Tae-seong and wants to have a drink with him and his friends. His friends start a fight, from which Hyeon-u tries to stay out. But since he is on parole, he is sent to prison again.

Three years later, Mi-su and Hyeon-u happen to meet again. Mi-su invites him over. It's the last day before Hyeon-us begins military service. That's why Mi-su set up an email account for him. In the night they both come closer. The next morning, Mi-su gives Hyeon-u a note. When Hyeon-u sits on the bus, he looks at him. However, only the username for the e-mail box can be found on it, but no password. Mi-su also remembers that she forgot to write down the password. Nevertheless, she writes to Hyeon-u regularly. Some time later, she moved into a new apartment and turned to the radio show Musikalbum : Donut had Tofu told that the password was Donuts matriculation number. But Hyeon-u does not seem to get the broadcast. Instead, he visits Mi-su's apartment two years later and sees that she has moved out. But he remembers the matriculation number that she once told him when he entered the apartment. He goes to the nearest library, sits down at a computer and can successfully log into his e-mail and see Mi-su's messages.

reception

Tune in for Love opened in South Korean cinemas on August 28, 2019 and reached over 1.2 million viewers. The film received mostly positive reviews. According to Yoon Min-sik of the Korea Herald , it is a mediocre film that is nostalgic for the 1990s . But the film hardly offers anything new. As with On Your Wedding Day , the protagonists meet again and again by chance. But the chemistry between the main actors is not so good here. The music, however, catches the 1990s well.
