Tunilla ianthinantha is a species of plant in the genus Tunilla from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Tunilla ianthinantha grows prostrate, branches from the underside of the shoot segments and forms pads. The elongated to obovate shoot segments are somewhat humped and up to 8 inches long. There are about 100 areoles on them . The 3 to 8 unequal, mostly straight thorns that arise from them are spread out. They are initially brownish, later become whitish and are up to 6 inches long.

The purple-red flowers are up to 6 centimeters long. Your pericarpel is covered with areoles. The fruits are pear-shaped.

Distribution and systematics

Tunilla ianthinantha is common in the Argentine province of Jujuy . The first description as Platyopuntia ianthinantha was in 1980 by Friedrich Ritter . In 2000 David Richard Hunt and James Iliff placed them in the genus Tunilla .
