Map with all coordinates: The Neuhof tunnel is a 1.610 km long tunnel on the federal motorway 66 in the Rhine-Main area through the locality of Neuhof in the Fulda district in East Hesse . It is currently the longest motorway tunnel in Hesse until it will be replaced by the Hirschhagen tunnel (max. 4204 m) in 2020 . It is passed by 31,000 vehicles every day, 20% of which are truck traffic.

Construction of the tunnel began in mid-2008. It opened on September 13, 2014.

Between the two junctions Neuhof-Süd (51) and Neuhof-Nord (52), the 1.6 kilometer long tunnel runs through Neuhof (parallel to the railway line between the districts of Neustadt and Opperz).
The tunnel consists of two tubes with two lanes each. Contrary to the name, it is an enclosure . The autobahn was built in an open cut, which was then completely covered again with earth.

There is an advance notice in the tunnel for the Neuhof-Süd exit. There is a namesake for the tunnel, the Rhineland-Palatinate Neuhof tunnel .
