Map with all coordinates: The Wersten Tunnel or Werstener Tunnel is a two-tube motorway tunnel on the A 46 in the Wersten district of the North Rhine-Westphalian capital Düsseldorf . The tunnel has a length of 865 m. It has three strips per tube and is equipped with a hard shoulder in each tube. Similar to the nearby university tunnel, the tunnel was built as a noise protection tunnel in the mid-1980s. What is special about the tunnel is that the Düsseldorf-Wersten motorway junction is partially in the tunnel. From the direction of Wuppertal in the direction of Düsseldorf city center and from Wersten in the direction of Wuppertal, the exit and exit runs partly in the tunnel. There is a kind of park above the tunnel. The tunnel height is 4.85 m, the width per tube 16.85 m.
The maximum permissible speed is 80 km / h. The tunnel is driven through by almost 99,600 vehicles every day (of which heavy haulage: 11.4%) (status: traffic census 2015), making it one of the busiest tunnels in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The Wersten tunnel was extensively renovated by 2015 in order to adapt this tunnel to the safety standards of the RABT (guidelines for the equipment and operation of road tunnels) in 2006.
