The airport tunnel or airport tunnel Düsseldorf is a two-tube motorway tunnel on the A 44 in the north of the North Rhine-Westphalian capital Düsseldorf . The tunnel is in the immediate vicinity of Düsseldorf Airport . A kind of green area runs above the tunnel. The tunnel has a length of 1070 m, a clearance height of 4.85 m and a width of 17.25 m per tube. In each there are three lanes and one hard shoulder. The Düsseldorf-Flughafen exit leads partly with its exits and driveways directly into the tunnel. The maximum permissible speed in the tunnel is 80 km / h. The tunnel is driven through by approx. 71,700 vehicles every day, the heavy load share is 5.2% (traffic census 2015).

The airport tunnel is to be comprehensively renovated from 2020 in order to adapt it to the safety standards of the guidelines for the equipment and operation of road tunnels (RABT 2006).
