Tupua Leupena

Sir Tupua Leupena GCMG MBE (born August 2, 1922 , † November 24, 1996 ) was a politician of the Pacific island state of Tuvalu . Leupena was Speaker of the Parliament from 1981 to 1985 during the terms of Prime Ministers Toaripi Lauti and Tomasi Puapua .

Governor General of Tuvalu

Leupena was appointed second Governor General of Tuvalu and held this office from March 1, 1986 to October 1, 1990. He was thus the deputy of Queen Elizabeth II , who is considered the head of state of Tuvalu.

He was knighted on July 24, 1986 with an accolade.

Sir Tupua Leupena died on November 24, 1996 at the age of 74.
