Toaripi Lauti

Sir Toaripi Lauti GCMG , PC (born November 28, 1928 in Papua New Guinea - † May 25, 2014 ) was a Tuvaluan politician.

From October 2, 1975 he was Minister of State for the island state. After gaining state sovereignty on October 1, 1978, Lauti was appointed the country's first prime minister. He held this office until September 8, 1981, when he was forced to resign because of his alleged involvement in an investment scandal.

Nine years later, on October 1, 1990, Lauti was appointed Governor General of Tuvalu, representing the British monarch as head of state. He held this office until December 1, 1993.
