Maatia Toafa OBE (born May 1, 1954 ) is a Tuvaluan politician and two-time Prime Minister of the island state.

Toafa initially held the post of Deputy Prime Minister under Saufatu Sopoanga . When Sopoanga resigned on August 27, 2004 after a vote of confidence in parliament that had been lost two days earlier, Toafa initially took over the office.

He was confirmed in office by Parliament on October 11, 2004. Sopoanga took over the deputy post. On August 14, 2006 he was replaced as Prime Minister by Apisai Ielemia . Toafa was re-elected to this post by Parliament on September 29, 2010, but only stayed until December that year. On December 21st, the government had to resign due to a vote of no confidence . The new prime minister was the former minister Willy Telavi , whose move to the opposition made it possible to vote out.

On August 5, 2013, he became Minister of Finance in the government of Enele Sopoaga .
