Turbinicarpus gielsdorfianus is a species of plant in the genus Turbinicarpus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

usually grows individually with spherical to spherical-cylindrical, blue to yellow-green bodies , which sometimes sprout and have a poorly developed taproot . They reach heights of 5 to 7 centimeters and a diameter of 4.5 to 5 centimeters. Your parting is white wool. The wide, angular and somewhat conical humps are 3 to 5 millimeters high. There is a protruding, straight, whitish central spine that becomes darker at the tip , which can also be missing. It reaches a length of 18 to 20 millimeters. The 6 to 8 straight radial spines are whitish, radiating and up to 20 millimeters long.

The white flowers have a darker central stripe. They are 1.3 to 2.5 centimeters long and 1.5 to 2 centimeters in diameter. The light green and slightly elongated fruits are 5 to 6 millimeters long and reach a diameter of 3 to 4 millimeters.

Systematics, distribution and endangerment

Turbinicarpus gielsdorfianus is distributed according to the first description in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas in the valley of Jaumave. Walter Alfred Fitz Maurice rediscovered the lost species in 1987 near Ciudad Maiz in the state of San Luis Potosí .

It was first described as Echinocactus gielsdorfianus in 1929 by Erich Werdermann . Václav John and Jan Říha (* 1947) placed them in the genus Turbinicarpus in 1983 . Gymnocactus gielsdorfianus (Werderm.) Backeb is a synonym .

Turbinicarpus gielsdorfianus is listed in Appendix I of the Washington Convention on Endangered Species . In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is it as " Critically Endangered (CR) , d". H. classified critically endangered.
