Turbinicarpus hoferi is a species of plant in the genus Turbinicarpus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Turbinicarpus hoferi grows individually with gray-green, depressed spherical bodies and has fiber roots. The bodies reach a diameter of 3 to 5 centimeters. Their cusps are rounded to rhomboid. The thorns are dimorphic . Young plants have 6 to 13 white thorns arranged in a comb. Adult plants have 4 to 7 needle-like, non-corky thorns that are gray with a darker tip and 3 to 5 millimeters long.

The white flowers are 2.5 centimeters long and 1.5 to 2 centimeters in diameter. The initially greenish fruits turn brownish later. They reach a length of 5 to 7 millimeters and a diameter of 3.5 to 4 millimeters.

Systematics, distribution and endangerment

Turbinicarpus hoferi is distributed in the south of the Mexican state Nuevo León . It was first described in 1991 by Jonas Martin Lüthy and Alfred Bernhard Lau (1928–2007). Turbinicarpus hoferi is listed in Appendix I of the Washington Convention on Endangered Species . In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is it as " Critically Endangered (CR) , d". H. classified critically endangered.
