Turbo is a Polish heavy and thrash metal band from Poznan , which was founded in 1980, dissolved in 1992 and re-formed in 1996.
history
The band was founded in January 1980 by bassist Henryk Tomczak. A short time later, guitarist Wojciech Hoffmann, drummer Wojciech Anioła and singer Wojciech Sowula joined the cast. Shortly thereafter, a single with the songs W środku tej nocy and Byłem z tobą tyle lat was released on it. In November 1980 the singer Sowula left the line-up and was replaced by Piotr Krystek. Other tracks were recorded and played on the radio. Another line-up change followed: bassist Tomczak left the band and was replaced by 16-year-old Piotr Przybylski. Andrzej Łysów joined the band as the second guitarist and Grzegorz Kupczyk joined the line-up as the new singer.
In 1982 the debut album Dorosłe Dzieci was released . The release was followed by a number of live performances. The post of drummer changed constantly and passed Marek Olszak via Ryszard Oleksy to Przemysław Pahl. The latter was replaced by Alan Sors. Bassist Piotr Przybylski also left the band and was replaced by Bogusz Rutkiewicz. In 1985 the next album Smak Ciszy was recorded and released. The following year another album called Kawaleria Szatana was released . After the release, the band reached a deal with Metal Mind Productions .
In 1987 the album Ostatni Wojownik was recorded . A year later the album was released in Europe as an English version under the name Last Warrior . On the album Tomasz Goehs could be heard as the new drummer. In 1988 the live album Alive! , on which two concerts on December 30, 1986 and March 3, 1987 could be heard.
In 1989 the line-up changed again: Bogusz Rutkiewicz left the band, Andrzej Łysów switched from electric guitar to bass and Robert "Litza" Friedrich joined the band as the new guitarist. Together they recorded the album Epidemie , which was later released as English under the name Epidemic . In 1990 Grzegorz Kupczyk and Andrzej Łysów left the band. Tomasz Olszewski joined the line-up as the new bass player and Robert Friedrich as the new singer. Together they recorded the album Dead End . After the release, the band was inactive for a while. In 1990, a compilation was released that featured songs from 1980 to 1990.
Wojciech Hoffman tried to revive the in 1991. The album One Way was released, but it was only released on cassette . The release turned out to be a financial loss, causing the band to split up for the time being. In 1992 the compilation Titanic was released , which contained previously unpublished recordings. A year later, a compilation of all of the band's ballads appeared with Dorosłe Dzieci i inne ballady .
In 1995 the band played a gig in Poznan, with Wojciech Hoffmann, Grzegorz Kupczyk, Bogusz Rutkiewicz, guitarist Marcin Białożyk and drummer Szymon Ziomkowski. Due to the success of the concert, the band was officially re-established on January 1st, 1996. Another compilation called Intro 1982-1996 was released in 1997 . In 1999, Metal Mind re-released the band's discography. Some appearances at festivals followed. In 2000, a remastered version of Titanic called Remix '92 was released .
In 2001 the album Awatar was released . The cast consisted of Hoffmann, Kupczyk, Rutkiewicz and drummer Mariusz Bobkowski. In 2004 the line-up changed again, so that in addition to Wojciech Hoffmann, Grzegorz Kupczyk and Bogusz Rutkiewicz, drummer Tomek Krzyżaniak and guitarist Dominik Jokiel were also in the band. The album Tożsamość was released in the same year. In the following years the band took a break and the members went on other projects. In March and April 2007 a tour took place with Chainsaw . In 2009 the album Stražnik Šwiatła was released .
style
At the beginning of their career, the band played more classic heavy metal. In the course of his career, the music developed into classic, fast-played Thrash Metal, with some sound parallels to Black Metal being drawn. The group is compared to other bands in the genre such as Desaster and the Swedish band Bewitched .
