The Turkestan chain is a mountain range in Central Asia .

The Turkestan chain extends over a length of 340 km in an east-west direction. The border between Tajikistan ( Sughd Province ) and Kyrgyzstan runs along the eastern ridge of the mountain range . The middle ridge section lies entirely within Tajikistan, while the western ridge forms the border between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan .

The mountain range merges into the Alai Mountains in the east . In the north and north-east of the Turkestan chain the broad Ferghana valley extends . The Golodnaya Steppe begins in the northwest . In the south, the Serafshan river valley separates the mountains from the parallel Serafshan chain . In the west, the mountains end at the Samarqand oasis .

The highest point of the mountain range is the Pik Skalisty in the east ridge with a height of 5621  m . The eastern ridge is heavily glaciated . Steppe vegetation grows on the southern slopes, while the northern slopes are forested.

The Schahriston Pass crossed the mountain range at an altitude of 3378  m . The M34 trunk road from Dushanbe to Khujand in the north of Tajikistan over the pass was not accessible all year round. The M34 has been running through the Schahriston Tunnel since 2012 .

The Zomin National Park is located on the northern slope of the western mountain ridge.
