The Turks and Caicos iguana ( Cyclura carinata ) belongs to the iguanas family (Iguanidae).

description

The males have a body length (including tail ) of 60 to 75 centimeters. The smaller females reach a length of around 50 centimeters. The weight of the animals is between 1 and 1.5 kilograms. The males differ from the females by their neck crest .

distribution

Turks and Caicos iguanas live on the Turks and Caicos Islands .

food

The animals eat fruits , leaves , flowers , vegetables and insects .

Reproduction

The mating season of the iguanas is in May. The female lays two to nine eggs. The young hatch after around three weeks. They reach sexual maturity after around seven years.

Danger

Turks and Caicos Iguanas are, according to the Red List of IUCN threatened with extinction ( critically endangered ).
