The Turn- und Sportverein Vahrenwald 08 eV (TuS Vahrenwald 08) is an association founded in 1908 in the tradition of a workers' sports club . The registered club offers its around 1000 members (as of 2019) sport and leisure activities in 16 categories and, with the Hannover Regents, provides the only baseball club team in the Lower Saxony state capital.

history

The gymnastics and sports club Vahrenwald 08 was founded in 1908, initially only as a department of the Free Gymnastics Association Hanover (FT Hanover) for its members from the Hanover district of Vahrenwald.

From 1920 the association used the first club's own sports facility at the Vahrenwalder water tower . In addition to gymnastics, handball and fistball were now offered.

In 1928 the name was changed to the Association for Sports and Body Care Vahrenwald .

After the seizure of power by the Nazis in 1933, the association was banned and confiscated the association's assets.

In 1948 the newly founded association was entered in the association register with its current name .

From 1951, TuS Vahrenwald 08 only used a makeshift sports field on Helmkestrasse for more than a decade. in the Hainholz district . It was not until 1963 that a new facility at Sahlkamp could be used. The association also uses urban gyms.

Since the 1970s , TuS Vahrenwald 08 began a successful development in nationally recognized sporting competitions. For example, members of the club won several German and national basketball championships . In 1995 and 2006 the baseball men were promoted to the 1st Bundesliga.

In April 2009 the TuS Vahrenwald 08 was honored with the sports plaque of the Federal President.
