Tyler Metcalfe (born June 12, 1984 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player with Hungarian citizenship who won the triple of the MOL league , Hungarian championship and Hungarian cup with the Miskolci Jegesmedvék JSE .
Career
Tyler Metcalfe was drawn in 1999 in the first round of the WHL Bantam Draft in twelfth place overall by the Seattle Thunderbirds , for whom he played in the Western Hockey League for the next six years . During this time he was awarded the Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman Trophy in 2002 for the sum of sporting achievements and school success. After finishing school he moved to the University of Alberta and played five years for the university team there, the Alberta Golden Bears , with whom he won the Canadian University Championship in 2006 and 2009 . He was also awarded the Dr. Randy Gregg Award for Outstanding Student Athlete. He then moved to Europe, where he first played a year for the Hungarian club Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák in the MOL league and won the Hungarian Cup with the club . After a year at HK Arystan Temirtau in Kazakhstan, he returned to Hungary and played the 2012/13 season for Alba Volán Székesfehérvár in the Austrian ice hockey league . In 2013 he moved to Miskolci Jegesmedvék JSE , whose team captain he also became. In his first season in Miskolc he was elected to the All-Star-Team of the MOL League. In 2015 he celebrated the triple of the MOL league, Hungarian championship and cup victory with the polar bears . Then he ended his career.
International
Metcalfe received Hungarian citizenship in 2014 and made his debut for the Hungarian national team that same year . In 2015 he played with the Magyars for the first time at the World Cup and rose to the top division by finishing second in the A group of Division I.
