Lists on the subject

The Type 95 ( Chinese  95 式 自动 步枪 , Pinyin 95 Shì Zìdòng Bùqiāng ) (translation: Type 95 automatic rifle ) is a Chinese assault rifle . It was introduced in 1995, is produced by Norinco and was intended to replace the Type 81 in the role of the standard rifle for the armed forces of the People's Republic of China . The abbreviation QBZ is used as a military designation, the letters of which translate as "light infantry weapon", "rifle" and "automatic". In addition to the assault rifle, there are variants of the weapon for snipers , a light machine gun and an export model designed for firing NATO ammunition.

development and construction

In the mid-1990s, the Chinese armed forces were looking for a more modern alternative to the Type 81 assault rifle, which was successful at the time . In the new development, the 5.8 × 42 mm cartridge was also used, which roughly corresponds to the 5.56 × 45 mm NATO cartridge in terms of design and mode of operation . The Type 95 is a gas pressure loader in Bullpup design and is similar in technology and construction to both the British SA80 and the French standard rifle FAMAS . The weapon is largely made of plastic, which makes it light in weight compared to other weapons.

use

Guard of honor with Type 95 and mounted bayonet, 2009

In the army of the People's Liberation Army , after modernization is complete, each group of motorized infantry is to consist of ten soldiers, divided into two squads. Each of the squads consists of a squad leader, two infantrymen with Type 95 rifles, a rifleman with the light machine gun variant of the Type 95 and a grenadier with a Type 95 and an attached 35 mm grenade launcher (QLZ 87B). The infantrymen should each carry around 300 rounds of ammunition and a bayonet .

The platoon leader and radio operator should be equipped with a variant of the Type 95 with a shortened barrel (609, instead of 745 mm total length).
