The Tyuleniy Point ( Russian Мыс Тюлений Mys Tjuleni , German 'Robbenkap' ) is a headland on the Princess Astrid coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It is located 800 m west of Ozhidaniya Cove on the north side of the Schirmacher Oasis .
The first aerial photographs were taken during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . Soviet scientists mapped it in 1961 and gave it its name. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated this into English in 1970 in an adapted partial translation.
