The Donaustadtbrücke station on the U2 subway line in the 22nd district of Donaustadt in Vienna was built in an elevated position. It is located on the left bank of the Danube above the Danube bank motorway . It is named after the bridge of the same name .
building
The station was opened on October 2, 2010 with the opening of the third section of the U2 between the stadium and Aspernstrasse .
It is double-track and has a side platform each. One exit leads to the New Danube , the second access leads to the Am Kaisermühlendamm street , where there is also a park-and-ride facility. The Kaisermühlen motorway junction is located in the immediate vicinity of the station between the Danube bank motorway (A22) and the Vienna Südosttangente (A23).
After the opening of the Donaustadtbrücke station, the number of passengers at the nearby Lobau S-Bahn station dropped significantly, which is why it was closed in December 2014.
Design
In 2013, the Portuguese Pedro Cabrita Reis painted part of the wall in the northern part with orange-red and white concrete paint and attached a 10-meter-high light stick to the station. A comparable color was also applied to the neighboring Donaumarina station . According to the artist's self-assessment, this represents " an ideal crossing of the Danube, as it were a second, artistic bridge ".
