The Donaumarina station on the U2 underground line in Vienna's 2nd district, Leopoldstadt , was built at an elevated point.
building
The station is located on the right bank of the Danube above the Handelskai . It is named after the boat harbor Marina Wien . It was opened on October 2, 2010 with the opening of the third section of the U2 between the stadium and Aspernstrasse .
It is double-track and has a side platform each. One exit leads to the banks of the Danube, the second entry leads to Wehlistraße, where the headquarters of the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions is located. Situated next to the station, the junction is Handelskai the Southeast tangent Vienna motorway (A23).
Design
In 2013, the Portuguese Pedro Cabrita Reis painted part of the south wall with orange-red and white concrete paint and attached a 10-meter-high light stick to the station. A comparable color was also applied to the neighboring Donaustadtbrücke station . According to the artist's self-assessment, this represents " an ideal crossing of the Danube, as it were a second, artistic bridge ".
