Encarnação Metro Station

Encarnação is a metro station on the Linha Vermelha of the Lisbon Metro , the subway network of the Portuguese capital . The station is located under Rua General Silva Freire near the intersection with Rua Capitão Tenente Oliveira e Carmo in the Encarnação district of the Lisbon municipality of Olivais . The neighboring train stations are Moscavide and Aeroporto .

The subway station was designed by Alberto Barradas, who was also responsible for the design for cost reasons. As usual, the station has two 105-meter-long side platforms, the exits and the elevators are located in the middle of the platform and lead to a mezzanine. From there there is an exit to the north and south, the elevator to the street surface is in the middle of the mezzanine. Barradas naturally chose shapes and materials known to the human eye for the design. While the ceiling above the side platforms is covered almost completely in white and is illuminated from below, gray stone dominates the mezzanine.

The underground station went into operation on July 17, 2012 with the opening of the northern extension of Linha Vermelha between Oriente station and Portela Airport .
