u-blox is a Swiss supplier of semiconductor components for electronic systems in the field of positioning and wireless communication for the consumer goods, industrial goods and automotive markets and works according to the fabless principle (without in-house production). The company develops and sells chips and modules that support global satellite navigation systems (GNSS), including receivers for GPS , GLONASS , Galileo , BeiDou and QZSS , as well as GSM, UMTS and CDMA2000 modems for wireless communication. U-blox also offers modules in the field of short-range radio ( Bluetooth and Wi-Fi ).
After going public in 2007, they acquired more than a dozen companies, the last acquisition being Rigado in 2019.

u-blox was founded in 1997 as a spin-off company at the ETH Zurich and is headquartered in Thalwil , Canton Zurich . The company is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and has offices in the USA, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, India, Ireland, Italy, Belgium, Finland, Great Britain and Australia.
U-blox's offering includes semiconductor devices, software, services and reference designs that support combined applications for wireless communication and GPS / GNSS. This enables the provision of location-based services and M2M applications ( machine-to-machine communication ) that are based on the convergence of 2G / 3G / 4G wireless technology and satellite navigation.
