UK Poker Open

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The UK Poker Open is a poker tournament that takes place annually in Maidstone, Great Britain. There have been three annual editions to date, all sponsored by 888.com .

Tournament format

108 players took part in all three editions. Before the official tournament there is always a round with celebrities, from which the winner moves up to the preliminary rounds. In addition, some commentators and actors from 888.com will be invited in the run-up to the tournament (e.g. Michael Körner in 2006 ), who like the other participants do not have to raise the entry fee of 5,000 to 10,000 dollars. The winners of the 18 preliminary rounds compete against each other in the semifinals at three tables, with each player receiving a supply of 100,000 chips. If there are only two players left per table, the game is over. The chips reached so far in the semi-finals will be taken to the final table. The player who wins all the chips in the final is the winner of the competition.

2006

The 2006 winner, Marek Kolk, received $ 250,000 in prize money. He didn't even have to pay the buy-in : He stepped in as a replacement for Tony G , who had already paid the entry fee. He won the final hand with K4 against A9 against Theo Dalton, who was allowed to travel home with at least 75,000 US dollars.
