UK Records

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

UK Records was a British music label that the multi-talented Jonathan King founded in 1972 to release his own records and those of some of the artists he supported. The abbreviation UK stands for "United King" .

Label history

The UK records were distributed by Decca Records , which King was manager for many years. Besides himself, many successful bands and singers from the mid-1970s released records with the UK : 10cc , First Class , Lobo , Kevin Johnson , Kursaal Flyers or Terry Dactyl and the Dinosaurs , whose keyboardist Jona Lewie later became successful as a solo artist. King brought re-releases of z. B. Roy C or Ike & Tina Turner . Since King produced " The Rocky Horror Show " , LPs for the show (original cast and London cast) and the first single version of Tim Curry's "Sweet Transvestite" were released on UK Records in 1974 .

After a few years, King grew tired of the record company and stopped making records on the label. However, he retained the rights to all publications and has republished the old recordings more or less regularly over the years.
