The United Nations India-Pakistan Observation Mission (German observer mission of the United Nations in India and Pakistan , UNIPOM ), a UN peace mission based on UN Resolution 211 of September 20, 1965, took place from September 1965 to March 1966.
The aim of the UN mandate was to control the ceasefire along the internationally recognized border between India and Pakistan .
UNIPOM was managed from the headquarters in Lahore in Pakistan and in Amritsar in India . The commanding general was Canadian Brigadier General B.F. Macdonald . Almost 100 military observers were deployed , supported by local and international civilian employees. At the beginning, the troops from the UNTSO and UNMOGIP missions came from Australia , Belgium , Chile , Denmark , Finland , Ireland , Italy , Canada , New Zealand , the Netherlands , Norway and Sweden , but which were soon supported by the actual troops from Ethiopia , Brazil , Burma , Ceylon , Ireland, Canada, Nepal , the Netherlands, Nigeria and Venezuela were replaced.
