The USS Edward McDonnell (FF-1043) was the third frigate of the Garcia class of the United States Navy . It was named after Vice Admiral Edward Orrick McDonnell , Medal of Honor holder .

history

The USS Edward McDonnell was laid down on April 1, 1963 at Avondale Shipyard in New Orleans , Louisiana . After being launched on February 15, 1964, it was commissioned as a destroyer escort with the identification DE-1043 in the US Navy on May 15, 1965. On June 30, 1975, the ship was reclassified as a frigate. After more than 23 years of service, the Edward McDonnell was decommissioned on September 30, 1988 and deleted on December 15, 1992 from the shipping registers of the Navy . On December 7, 2001, the former frigate was sold to the Metro Machine Corp, Philadelphia for scrapping for 2.3 million US dollars and was scrapped in the former Philadelphia Navy Yard .
