The USS Pearl Harbor (LSD-52) is a dock landing ship of the United States Navy and belongs to the Harpers Ferry class . It was named after the Pearl Harbor naval base in Hawaii.

history

LSD-52 was commissioned in 1993 and laid down at Avondale Shipyard in early 1995 . 13 months later the ship was launched and was christened. At the end of May 1998, the Pearl Harbor was put into service.

The Pearl Harbor is stationed in San Diego and regularly undertakes mission trips from there as part of so-called Expeditionary Strike Groups . In 2003 the ship moved during Operation Iraqi Freedom , and in 2007 the Pearl Harbor with her escorts USS Mitscher (DDG-57) and USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58) was the American component of exercises UNITAS 48-07 and Partnership of the Americas .

During a layover in 2008 alongside the USS Peleliu (LHA-5) , Pearl Harbor ran aground on July 21 in the Persian Gulf. The ship was not damaged, but the commander, a bronze star carrier, was then relieved of his command. Another relocation to the Persian Gulf followed in 2010 on the Peleliu's side . In August 2010, the group anchored off Karachi to bring relief supplies to the regions affected by the flood disaster in Pakistan with their helicopters . At the end of 2011, the ship moved to the side of the USS Makin Island (LHD-8) in the Pacific.
