US Silver Corporation was a mining company based in Wallace , Idaho, United States . The corporation specialized in the mining of silver .

history

The US Silver Corporation was formed in 2006 through the purchase of the Galena and Coeur mines and the Caladay project, including land and equipment, from Coeur d'Alene Mines for $ 15 million. Since the price of silver has multiplied since then, the old mines could quickly be operated economically.

In December 2014, US Silver & Gold merged with Scorpio Mining Corporation . The merged company continues the name Scorpio Mining Corporation.

Mines

The US Silver Corporation mines are located in Silver Valley, Idaho, which has been producing ores since the 19th century. The area is named after the Coeur d'Alene tribe of North American natives or the city of the same name as "Coeur-d'Alene-Revier".

Galena mine

The history of the Galena mine dates back to the 1880s when the first lead-silver veins were found. After changing owners, the mine was taken over by ASARCO in 1947 . In 1953 the company accidentally discovered a much more productive copper-silver vein, with which the more recent history of the Galena mine began. In 1995 ASARCO and Coeur d'Alene Mines formed a joint venture to operate the mine. After ASARCO went bankrupt in 1999, Coeur d'Alene Mines took over their shares.

As a result of the acquisition by US Silver , operations at the Galena mine were resumed after a two-year break. In March 2011, 235 people were working in the Galena mine . The production was around 900 tons per day.

Coeur mine

Mining was carried out in the neighboring Coeur mine from 1969 to 1998. From 2007 to 2009 the mine, which has an underground connection to the Galena mine , was used to transport ore from the Galena mine to the ore mill of the Coeur mine . US Silver plans to restart ore mining at the Coeur Mine in late 2011.

Further

The company also acquired the Caladay site and the historic Dayrock mine . Funding is currently not provided at these locations (as of March 2011).
