Uch , also Uch Sharif, Uch, is a historic city in Pakistan . It is located about 75 km southwest of Bahawalpur in the Punjab Province .

The city used to be at the confluence of the Indus and Chenab rivers , today it is about 100 km away. It was an important center and fortress of the Delhi Sultanate in the 13th century in the Indian Middle Ages .

In Uch Sharif are the mausoleums of Bibi Jawindi , Baha'al-Halim and Jalaluddin Bukhari, which are regarded as masterpieces of Islamic architecture and have been included in Pakistan's list of proposals for UNESCO World Heritage .

history

It is believed that in 325 BC BC Alexander the Great founded a city called Alexandria on the Indus at the confluence of the Chenab and Indus rivers. However, Greek historians assume that the city was called Oxydracae .

In the year 710 Muhammad bin Qasim conquered the city, during the Islamic period Uch was one of the centers for Islamic studies in South Asia.

There are various mausoleums of famous mystics ( Sufis ) in Uch , such as the mosque and the mausoleum of Syed Jalaluddin Bukhari and his family. There are also various domed graves; the first is said to have been built for Baha 'al-Halim by his student, the Suharwardiya Sufi saint Jahaniyan Jahangasht (1307-1383), the second for his great-granddaughter, Bibi Jawind, in 1494 and the third for his architect.
