Udo Münch

Udo Münch (born October 18, 1956 in Mainz ) is a German police officer and was the state police chief in Hesse until July 2020 .

Professional background

He joined the middle service of the Hessian riot police in 1975 and was a member of this until 1981. From 1981 to 1984 he studied at the Administrative College in Wiesbaden (today's Hessian University for Police and Administration ) and thus acquired the qualification for high service (police commissioner).

From 1984 to 1988 he was a member of the I. Hessian riot police department. Then he studied from 1988 to 1990 at the Police Leadership Academy in Münster / Hiltrup (today's German Police University ) and thus fulfilled the requirements for acceptance into the higher service (Police Council).

From 1990 to 1994 he was a member of the Hessian Police School, today's Hessian Police Academy . Of these, he worked for two years as a specialist group leader and two years as head of the technology department.

In August 1994 he was appointed lecturer at the Administrative College in Wiesbaden. From 1997 he headed the police department there and headed the university as rector from December 1999. In October 2003, he moved to the Hessian Ministry of the Interior and for Sport , where he was head of the LPP 5 department (finance, real estate, organization) in the Hessian state police headquarters.

From May 2005 to April 2006 he worked in the presidential office of the Hessian Police Headquarters for Technology, Logistics and Administration (PTLV) . During this time he was also acting vice president of the PTLV.

From May 2006 until November 2010 he held the post of inspector of the Hessian Police in the Hessian Ministry of the Interior and for Sport. This made him the highest-ranking police officer in Hesse at that time .

Since November 3, 2010, Münch has been State Police President in the Hessian Ministry of the Interior and for Sport. In the course of the affair of right-wing extremist threatening emails etc. a. against politicians of the party Die Linke , he resigned on July 14, 2020.
