Udo Tesch

Udo Tesch (born May 11, 1933 in Sassenburg ; † November 5, 2016 in Heidgraben ) was a German local politician of the SPD .

Life

Tesch, a trained civil engineer, was the mayor of the Heidgraben community from 1967 to 2016 . After being re-elected eleven times, he was the longest serving and one of the longest serving honorary mayors of Schleswig-Holstein . He was also one of the youngest mayors in the country at the time of his election.

During Tesch's tenure, the community grew from 900 to 2,600 inhabitants. For his political commitment, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon by Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker in 1986 and the Freiherr vom Stein Medal of Merit in 1999 by the State of Schleswig-Holstein . He also received honorary citizenship in Heidgraben and the Bürgermeister-Tesch-Straße in Heidgraben was named after him. In May 2013 he was awarded the Ansgar Cross for his church engagement.

In April 2016, Tesch resigned from his position as mayor for health reasons. He died in November of the same year at the age of 83.
