Ueli Studer

Ueli Studer (born March 19, 1953 in Köniz-Liebefeld ) is a Swiss politician ( SVP ). He is since 2010 the parliament of the canton of Bern and since 1 January 2014 Mayor of Köniz , the fourth largest municipality in the canton of Bern.

Life

Ueli Studer attended school in Köniz and then completed an apprenticeship as a painter . He started his own business in this area and ran his own painting business. In addition to politics, he volunteered in the fire department.

Political career

Local politics

Studer went through practically every stage of local politics in Köniz. For example, he was President of the School Commission, President of the SVP-Section in Köniz, a member of the Great Municipal Council (GGR), the Municipal Parliament of Köniz, and finally President of the Business Audit Committee of the GGR. In 2003 he was elected to the five-member council, the executive of the municipality of Köniz. In 2013, he was elected mayor in the second ballot. Studer was already in first place in the first ballot on November 24, 2013 with 41.4 percent of the votes, but missed the absolute majority required in Köniz. In the second ballot on December 15, 2013, Studer received 56.2 percent of the vote, beating his opponent, the Grand Councilor and councilor Rita Haudenschild ( GPS ).

Cantonal politics

In 2010 Ueli Studer was elected to the Grand Council (cantonal parliament) for the SVP in the Mittelland-Süd constituency. Studer ran on the SVP West list , which won 4 of the 20 seats in the Mitteland-Süd constituency with 17.6 percent of the vote (the SVP received a total of 26.5 percent of the votes in the constituency because it had two lists, SVP West and SVP Ost ). Ueli Studer was able to place himself directly behind the only previous one on the list and was chosen without any problems.
