Uhland is a place in Texas in Caldwell County .
The place is on the border with Hays County about 18 km northeast of San Marcos . 386 inhabitants live in the 4.7 km² area of the municipality (as of 2000).
Uhland was built around a plantation in the 1890s and was named after the German poet Ludwig Uhland ; In 1892 a post office was opened in the village, but it was closed again in 1902. Around 1950 there were half a dozen shops in the town, which then had 170 inhabitants. In the following years the village experienced an economic decline; In 1970 only 90 people lived there. In the 1980s, however, the place recovered, the population grew to around 370 by 1990.
The Club 21 dance hall, built in 1893, is the oldest continuously used dance hall in Texas.
