Ulla Tørnæs (born September 4, 1962 in Esbjerg ) is a Danish politician from Venstre and was Danish Development Minister from 2016 to 2019.

Life

Her parents are the Danish politician Laurits Tørnæs and Katty Tørnæs.

She was Minister of Education in the Anders Fogh Rasmussen I government . In the Anders Fogh Rasmussen Government II , the Government Anders Fogh Rasmussen III and in the government Lars Løkke Rasmussen I she was from 2005 to February 2010, Minister for Development Cooperation. Her successor in office was Søren Pind .

She has been a member of the European Parliament since 2014 . There she was a member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and a member of the Delegation for Relations with the Countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). In 2013 she was elected to the City Council of Holstebro Municipality ; in October 2015 she resigned from the office.

On Monday, February 29, 2016 Ulla Tørnæs became Minister of Education and Research in the Lars Løkke Rasmussen II government . Morten Løkkegaard replaces Tørnæs in the European Parliament.
