Ulli Schauen (* 1957 in Moers ) is a German journalist , publicist and civil rights activist .

Life

Schauen was trained as a journalist at the Cologne School (now the Cologne School of Journalism for Politics and Economics), the Graduate School of Journalism in Berkeley (University of California) and an editorial traineeship at WDR . He is also a graduate social economist ( University of Cologne and University of Göttingen ).

After two years as an editor in the foreign TV department at WDR, after working as a freelancer in 1989, Schauen has been working as a freelancer. From 2000 to 2011 he was chairman of the federal commission for the self-employed in the ver.di union . As ver.di self-employed chairman, he campaigned in particular for socio-political improvements for solo self-employed persons, but also against the license fee for professionally used internet-enabled PCs. Schauen, himself the son of a pastor, achieved notoriety, among other things, because of his book Das Kirchenhasser-Brevier . As a knowledgeable unionist, Blick administrates a mailing list and a website for freelancers at WDR . In 2002 he published the WDR jungle book as a "counselor for free", which he completely updated in 2012 and self-published. In addition to his journalistic activities, Schauen gives seminars on the journalistic trade, advises freelancers from the radio and television sector for the ver.di consulting project mediafon and works as a media trainer, for example at workshops for scientists throughout the European Union as part of the MAITRE project .
