Ulrich-Karl Engel

Ulrich-Karl Engel (born June 4, 1950 in Osterwieck ) is a German politician ( Alliance 90 / The Greens ). From 1990 to 1998 he was a member of the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament .

Education and life

Ulrich-Karl Engel attended the Polytechnische Oberschule in Osterwieck (Harz) from 1956 to 1966 and then learned the trade of a machining technician from 1966 to 1969 at the VEB Elektromotorenwerk Wernigerode. After completing basic military service, he completed an engineering degree from 1970 to 1973. Until 1975 he was a designer at VEB Eisenwerk Arnstadt and then at VEB Harzer Werke Blankenburg, first construction manager until 1982 and then until 1990 department manager internal administration. After the fall of the Wall he founded the Blankenburger Baugesellschaft mbH on behalf of the Treuhandanstalt .

From 1990 to 1998 he was a full-time member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt . From 1999 to 2010 he was a member of the Ministry of Transport in Saxony-Anhalt. There u. a. Initiator of the history project “Brocken Declaration” of the Transport Ministers' Conference .

In 2012 he was a member of the “Future of Transport Infrastructure Financing” commission ( Daehre Commission) and in 2013 he was a consultant in the “Sustainable Transport Infrastructure Financing” commission ( Bodewig Commission).

Ulrich-Karl Engel is of Protestant denomination, is married and has two children.

Ulrich-Karl Engel was non-party in the GDR, where he belonged to the FDGB and the DSF . In 1990 he became a member of the citizens 'movement Democracy Now , after the merger of the GDR citizens' movements to form Bündnis 90 and after merging with the Green Party, a member of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen . In the first state election in Saxony-Anhalt in 1990 and in the second state election in Saxony-Anhalt in 1994, he was elected to the state parliament via the state list. He was deputy chairman of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen parliamentary group. From 1999 to 2015 he was district chairman of the party, first in the district of Wernigerode and, after the district reform, in the district of Harz (Saxony-Anhalt). Since 1999 he has been a member of the city council in Blankenburg (Harz) .
