Ulrich Ehricke

Ulrich Ehricke (* 1964 ) is a German legal scholar and professor at the University of Cologne .

life and work

Ehricke studied law as well as history and political science at the Universities of Hanover , Geneva and London . In 1989 he passed his first state examination in law in Hanover, and in 1990 he obtained a Master of Laws in London. He then worked as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg. There he was in 1993 with one of Christian Kirchner and Ernst-Joachim Mestmäckersupervised writing to the Dr. iur. PhD. In 1995 he also completed his history and political science studies by completing an MA . Ehricke had been working as a research assistant at the Humboldt University in Berlin since 1993 . There he completed his habilitation in 1997 and received the venia legendi for the subjects civil law, civil procedural law, German and European commercial and economic law, and international private law and comparative law.

This was followed in 1998 and 1999, initially for professorships at the Universities of Munich and Cologne . From the winter semester 1999/2000 he held a full professorship at the University of Bremen . In the 2003/04 winter semester he moved to a full professorship at the University of Cologne, where he also heads the Institute for European Business Law as Director. His research focuses primarily on German and European competition law as well as European company, insolvency and commercial law and energy law, including national and international energy trading. He is also a part-time judge in the 1st Cartel Senate of the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court .
