Ulrich G. Schroeter

Ulrich Gerd Schroeter (* 1971 in Bremen ) is a German lawyer and professor of private law and comparative law at the University of Basel (Switzerland).

Career

After finishing school in Bremen and Perth (Australia), Ulrich Schroeter studied law at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and the University of Lausanne .

During his studies in Freiburg he represented the University of Freiburg in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna and was a student and later research assistant with Peter Schlechtriem at the Institute for Comparative and International Private Law. In 1998 he passed the first state examination in law in Freiburg .

After a 13-month trip around the world (1998-1999) he worked from 2000 in Berlin on his dissertation on the relationship and interactions between the CISG (CISG) and the European Community law with which it from the Free University of Berlin PhD has been.

After completing his legal clerkship at the Berlin Court of Appeal and working as an assistant for a year at the Humboldt University in Berlin, Schroeter returned to his alma mater in Freiburg. From the end of 2005 to the beginning of 2011 he was Hanno Merkt's assistant at the Institute for Comparative and International Private Law there.

In 2011, Schroeter completed his habilitation in Freiburg with a comparative legal thesis on the law of rating agencies , for which he was subsequently awarded several scientific prizes. He received the venia legendi for the subjects civil law , commercial and company law , international private law and comparative law .

After substituting professorships at the Universities of Münster and Mannheim, he was offered professorships at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and the University of Mannheim , from which he accepted the call to Mannheim in 2012.

From 2012 to 2017 Schroeter held the chair for civil law, international corporate and financial market law, and European business law at the University of Mannheim.

At the beginning of 2016 he was appointed to the University of Basel , where he has been researching and teaching as a professor of private law since the spring semester of 2017.

Research priorities

Ulrich Schroeter conducts research primarily in international trade and business law. Research focuses on the law of cross-border sales of goods (namely the UN Sales Convention (CISG)) as well as national and international financial market law , in particular the regulatory handling of information on the financial market. He also works for international uniform law and international treaty law , the Code of Obligations (Law of Obligations) and in the law of international arbitration .

Schroeter is a member of various academic associations such as the Society for Comparative Law , the German Society for International Law , the Association of Civil Law Teachers and the European Law Institute . In 2013 he was elected a member of the international CISG Advisory Council .
