Ulrich Härter

Ulrich Härter (born March 28, 1925 in Berlin ; † September 1, 2016 in Dortmund ) was a German painter .

Life

In 1945 Ulrich Härter began studying free painting at the Berlin School of Fine Arts, and in 1949 Karl Hofer made him a master student . In 1951/52 he received a scholarship for one year of study with Fernand Léger from the French High Commission in Germany. 1961 to 1962 followed a stay in a house of the writer Günter Grass in Paris and 1964 to 1965 a year of study in Olevano Romano near Rome, a house of the Berlin Academy of the Arts .

Since 1968 Härter has been a teacher at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences for Free + Experimental Painting , in 1969 he was appointed professor. He retired in 1986.

Härter lived and worked in Dortmund and southern France . He was married and had a son.

Ulrich Härter died on September 1, 2016 at the age of 91 in Dortmund. His grave is on the state's own forest cemetery in Heerstraße in Berlin-Westend (grave location: II-W1-47).

His works can be found in public collections, the Berlin National Gallery , the Städtische Galerie Schloss Oberhausen , the Museum of the City of Rheine and Frechen, and in numerous private collections. His representational painting shows portraits and group pictures, landscapes and still lifes , industrial and city views. Part of his work deals with the terror of National Socialism in Germany.
