Ulrich Moser (Abbot)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ulrich Moser (* 13th century, † January 6 or 27. September 1297 in Ebersberg ) was from 1280 to 1286 abbot of the monastery Wessobrunn and of 1286 until his death in 1297 abbot of the monastery Ebersberg .

Even before the death of his predecessor Wernher I on April 11, 1280 in the position of abbot of Wessobrunn, Ulrich Moser was mentioned as abbot in a personal asset letter. This indicates that he was probably appointed as administrator by Abbot Wernher I from the Ebersberg monastery. The choice Ulrich's abbot, with his background from another monastery, leaves a bad state at the monastery Wessobrunn suspect since obviously no person from the Convention was considered the Wessobrunner monastery as appropriate. Ulrich had previously worked as a cellarer in the Ebersberg monastery . In Wessobrunn he was primarily responsible for the economic improvement of the monastery and for the solution of the interdict . The solution from the interdict allowed Ulrich to bury the corpses of his two predecessors, Wernher I and Konrad III. The main altar and the monastery church were also consecrated in 1285 by the bishop of Augsburg Hartmann von Dillingen . Ulrich took over the veneration of Saint Sebastian from his home monastery in Ebersberg. He settled this in the crypt of the monastery church of Wessobrunn and consolidated it through a measurement foundation.

The convent of his home monastery Ebersberg elected Ulrich as its new abbot in April 1286. The election was necessary there after the previous abbot Peter Khuenberger had resigned in 1286. Until autumn of the same year Ulrich took time to think and decided in September to resign from the Wessobrunn monastery in order to take up his position as abbot in the Ebersberg monastery. Ulrich died there, depending on the source, either on January 6th or September 27th, 1297.
