Ulrich V. von Neuhaus

Ulrich V. von Neuhaus , (also Ulrich V. von Hradec , Ulrich Vavák, Czech Oldřich V. z Hradce ; also Oldřich Vavák (senior) ; † September 22, 1421 in Kutná Hora ), was the highest mint master in Bohemia . He came from the Witigon family branch of the Lords of Neuhaus .

Life

His parents were Heinrich III. von Neuhaus and Elisabeth von Hardegg ( Eliška z Hardeku ). Ulrich initially stayed abroad to study and studied at Heidelberg University in 1390 . After the death of his father in 1398, he took over the management of the entire Neuhaus estate , half of which and the other half to his brother Johann the Elder. J. ( Jan mladší ) belonged, who mostly resided on Telč . In contrast to his brother, who remained true to the Catholic faith, Ulrich was on the side of the moderate Taborites . He was probably influenced by Vinzenz von Wartenberg , who was married to Ulrich's relative Katharina von Landstein . On December 10, 1420 Ulrich took part in a disputation between the moderate and radical Taborites in the Prague Clementinum together with the Hussite military leader Jan Žižka .

On July 20, 1421 Ulrich was elected to the 20-member college at the Časlauer Assembly, to which the government of the Kingdom of Bohemia was transferred. A short time later he was appointed Supreme Mint Master of Bohemia in Kuttenberg . There he received a letter from the Emperor Sigismund on September 22nd , with which the latter asked Ulrich to surrender the possessions of his brother Johann, but above all his half of Neuhaus. The request came because Johann, who had already died on November 2, 1420, had placed his underage children under the protection of the emperor in his will. Although Ulrich probably would not have been ready to publish it, he could not comment on it because he himself on September 22nd. J. died of the plague.

Shortly before his death, Ulrich wrote a will with which he stipulated that his widow should be paid the agreed marriage property and his daughter Anna a sum of money in the event of their marriage. He bequeathed the rule of Neuhaus and the Moravian possessions near Bílkov to his relative Meinhard von Neuhaus .
