Ulrich von Wrochem (born September 13, 1944 in Dippoldiswalde ) is a German violist .

Musical career

Ulrich von Wrochem studied with Heinz Kirchner, Helmut Heller and George Neikrug in Berlin and Detmold. From 1966, his career took him to the position of solo violist at the Berlin Opera , Bayerischer Rundfunk and La Scala in Milan . For several years he has been working as a freelancer and has given master classes in Germany, Austria, Russia, Egypt, Syria, Brazil, China, Iran, Korea and the USA.

Besides Wolfram Lorenzen, his chamber music partners on the piano were his brother Johann Gottlob von Wrochem , Jörg Demus , Alfons Kontarsky and Bruno Canino. With Jessye Norman he recorded the “Viola Songs”, op. 91, by Brahms . Many composers, u. a. Isang Yun and R. Kelterborn dedicated their works to him. He worked as editor for the Bärenreiter, Wollenweber and Schott publishers. He also made a name for himself in baroque music with programs for viola d'amore and viola pomposa .

Ulrich von Wrochem lives in Hanover.
