Ulrike Deppe

Ulrike Deppe (born December 9, 1953 in Lippstadt ) is a former German canoeist . She became world champion in canoe slalom in 1981 .

The canoeist from WSC Lippstadt was successful at the beginning of her career both as a whitewater canoeist and in canoe slalom. In 1969 she took second place in the individual ranking and with the team at the White Water World Championships. This was followed in 1971 by the world championship title in singles and with the team, in 1973 she won silver behind Gisela Grothaus and gold with the team.

Also in 1969, Ulrike Deppe took second place in the individual behind the Czechoslovak Ludmila Polesná at the world championships in canoe slalom . Ulrike Deppe, Bärbel Körner and Brigitte Schwack won the team competition . In 1971 Deppe, Körner and Ursula Heinrich won silver in the team classification. The canoe slalom was Olympic for the first time at the 1972 Olympic Games . On the Augsburger Eiskanal Ulrike Deppe, Gisela Grothaus and went Magdalena Wunderlich for the Federal Republic at the start. While Deppe was only seventh, Grothaus with silver and Wunderlich with bronze provided two German medals behind Angelika Bahmann from the GDR. Since the canoe slalom was not back on the Olympic program until 1992, this was Ulrike Deppe's only participation in the Olympics.

In 1975 Ulrike Deppe came second at the World Championships in Canoe Slalom behind Maria Ćwiertniewicz from Poland . It was not until 1976 that Ulrike Deppe won her first German championship title in canoe slalom, and four more titles were to follow by 1982. In 1979 Deppe won, together with Elke Dietze and Gabriele Köllmann, the world championship silver medal in the team classification behind the canoeists from the United States. Ulrike Deppe had her greatest success at the Canoe Slalom World Championships in Bala , Wales in 1981 . She won both the individual title and the team title together with Gabriele Köllmann and Susanne Erbers .

On June 16, 1970, she was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for her athletic achievements.

Ulrike Deppe has been a member of the German Society for Systemic Therapy, Counseling and Family Therapy since 2009 and works as a freelance couple counselor .
