Ulrike Müller (director)

Ulrike Müller (born 1981 in Cottbus ) is a German theater director , author and actress .

Life

Ulrike Müller studied acting at the University of Music and Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig from 1999 to 2002 . She worked as a member of the ensemble at the Dresden State Theater and the Bielefeld City Theater and gave guest performances at the Cottbus State Theater. In 2008 she studied directing at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin. She has been working as a freelance theater director and author since 2010 .

Müller has directed at the bat-Studiotheater Berlin, the Landestheater Detmold , the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau , the Theater Rudolstadt , the State Theater Cottbus and the Hans-Otto Theater in Potsdam. She also takes on teaching positions at Bielefeld University and various educational institutions, for example for "Adventure Culture". The drugstore chain " dm " has anchored theater education as a solid pillar in its training concept under this name since 2000 .

In 2012, she was nominated as the “best young director” in the critics' survey of the magazine Theater heute for her play Das Projekt I am . For her radio play Das Projekt I am! She was nominated for the ARD Online Award in 2015 and won the ARD German Radio Play Prize, endowed with 5000 euros . According to the jury's statement, the radio play convinced “with its natural balance of precise, unobtrusive craftsmanship and political topicality”. Thematically, the piece is about the problems contemporary actors have to support a family and to survive professionally.

With her radio play “Dear Nicolas Berggruen” (2017), Ulrike Müller addresses the housing situation in Berlin. This is the second time she has been nominated for the German Radio Play Award.

She is currently receiving a grant from the State of Berlin with which she is preparing a biographical project.

Ulrike Müller lives with her family in Berlin .
