Ulrike Zemme

Ulrike Zemme (born July 27, 1956 in Linz , Upper Austria ; † November 14, 2017 in Vienna ) was an Austrian dramaturge and translator .

Life

Zemme studied Slavic and German at the University of Salzburg . From 1989 to 1995 she was a production dramaturge at the Vienna Burgtheater and Akademietheater . She has translated selected works by Maxim Gorki and Anton Chekhov into German (including Ivanov and Kirschgarten ) and Sunset by ( Isaak Babel ).

In 1998 she moved to the Theater in der Josefstadt , where she was chief dramaturge under artistic director Herbert Föttinger from 2006 until her death. She was involved in world premieres and premieres in Josefstadt.

She succumbed to a brief, serious illness in November 2017.
