The Ultra-Trail World Tour , UTWT for short , is an annual international cup classification of ultra - trail runs with a distance of at least 100 kilometers.
The UTWT was initiated by eight ultra-marathon organizers and presented to the public on September 1, 2013 during the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc in Chamonix . First held in 2014, the Cup initially included the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc and the Marathon des Sables, eight other renowned running events. More ultra trail competitions were added in the following years. Criteria for inclusion are a length of at least 100 km, a number of at least 500 runners from different nations in a minimum of a second edition and the event at a symbolic location.
Regulations
The annual ranking of the UTWT is calculated from the points of the two best placements of a runner in a categorized cup run during a calendar year.
In the Series Bonus category , the winner receives 1,300 points. Points are awarded proportionally up to the 143rd position of the respective run. Winners of an ultramarathon in the Series category receive 1000 points, the runners-up are rated up to 136th position. The Pro category is awarded 700 points, descending to the 125th position. Challenger winners receive 400 points, the scoring takes place up to the 100th position.
The world ranking established in 2017 summarizes the five best placements of a runner over the past three years.
